Preventative Maintenance

Evaporators and fans

Cleaning of the evaporator is as important as cleaning of condensers to insure proper airflow and heat transfer. Dirty evaporators will lead to higher operating pressures, and system inefficiencies which in turn can affect compressor performance and life span.

They can also lead to other issues, such as iced up evaporators, reducing system performance, and leading to risk of product loss due to high temperatures.

Regular preventative maintenance reduces the risk of system failures and increases the life span of the refrigeration system.

One of the most common call outs during hot weather and summer months, is High Pressure Safety Trips, as a result of a dirty or blocked up condenser. Once a condenser becomes blocked, the airflow over it is restricted. This results in low heat rejection from the unit, and in turn high operating pressures. If left for long periods, damage to the compressor is likely, as well as failure of system, loss of stock/products.

Service calls for dirty condensers can be avoided by having regular preventative maintenance and insuring clean and healthy systems are maintained.

Overall System Checks

During a PM, all aspects of the refrigeration system will be checked, and serviced where applicable. Not only will evaporators and condensers be properly cleaned, systems refrigerant levels will be checked, as well as compressor oil levels when possible. All electrical will be checked for safety and potential issues, such as contactors, loose connections, exposed or damaged wiring etc.

In addition the system controls will be checked and calibrated if necessary. System defrosts will be monitored to ensure correct operation of defrost elements, and times.

Following a scheduled PM, the client will receive a detailed report on all work under taken, as well as any potential issues which have been noted, such as possible refrigerant leaks, or low oil levels. under performing compressors, or noisy/ damaged fan motors. The client then has the option to undertake the necessary repairs.

Your refrigeration system is one of the most important aspects of your business. Without a reliable cold chain, you are not able to operate, and risk losing revenue due to stock and product damages.

In our experience, preventative maintenance is  a key factor for system longevity, as well as reducing unnecessary service call outs, and potential system failures.
